Update : TOME 1.2 : Swiftlet

What is available in this release?

Tome 1.2 adds two new features to your storytelling:

  • Tome Maps
  • Notes

It also changes the UI significantly for a better experience.

Get started

Tome Maps

Tome Maps are similar to Lore Maps, but are meant to help you with more “zoomed-in” views, such as Dungeon Maps.

To create a new map, simply click “New Map” in the palette, under Insert > Scenario.

The maps in Tome have the same functionality as a Lore Map, but add a new concept : Text Pins

Text Pins come with a selection of ten icons and two colors that help you navigate your map.

Use them to know at a glance when you should consult a pin. Something should be described as soon as the players see it ? Why not use the eye ? Something should be interacted with ? Use the hand, or the key if a special item is needed, perhaps. You are free to interpret these icons as you see fit, ultimately. One thing is for sure : gone are the days of having dozens of notes about a room, and not knowing which one to consult at the right moment.

Notes

Ultimately, in Tome, our storytelling software, one should be able to write down a commercially-available campaign, then play it with multiple groups. In order to achieve this, we still have many features to implement. This one is one of them.

I don’t know about you, but the best way I ever found to take notes in a pinch is to send messages to myself in a chat window. So that’s what we did. During a session, when with your players, you can now send notes in that window. After the session, you’ll be able to drag and drop them in the text like this :

When our system becomes able to run multiple sessions, these notes will only apply to the session they were taken in, allowing you to play with multiple tables with ease.

The new UI

As you can see in the last picture, the UI has been significantly altered. Scenes in Tome now scroll as a whole, memos don’t require scrolling on normal screen sizes anymore, and the font size has been reduced to improve the density of information on screen, among other things.

It is also now much easier to drag and drop paragraphs, frames and other elements inside text boxes.

Finally, the Spell Checking features have been improved.

Enjoy the new UI !
